Tony Luczak, director of golf in the recreational sports department, thinks golfers should have a personal coach with them every time they hit the course. Hiring someone to go to the driving range or local links whenever they want to hit a few balls or play nine holes, however, would be so expensive most would have to give up the sport.
Luczak hopes to change that with a bio-feedback training system he has spent the past two years developing to be a virtual swing coach for users.
The current system is a combination of software and a golf club-mounted sensor that detects the arc and plane of the swing, providing instant feedback. Currently, the system is wired directly to a computer, but Luczak hopes to develop it into a mobile wireless system.
"It would essentially be a mobile golf coach," Luczak said. "Players would clip it to their belts when they practice or play, and through the instant feedback, be able to feel the swing when it is perfect."
