Profile: Hugh & Nancy Comish
Hugh and Nancy Comish retired to Starkville in 2000 to live near their son, looking forward to the slower pace and a chance to savor and enjoy the golden years of their life. That slower pace, however, didn't necessarily mean slowing down.
In addition to volunteering in the community, the retired architect, Hugh, and retired nurse, Nancy, have spent the past 15 semesters in classrooms at MSU working hard to keep their minds and bodies in shape, taking at least one class per term.
"When we retired, we made up our minds not to sit around and do nothing and vegetate," Nancy said. "Taking classes keeps our minds active, but also keeps us active because we get up and get going in the morning, park at the coliseum, and walk across campus to class."
The Comishes are taking advantage of a program at MSU that allows senior citizens to take classes tuition-free and say they plan to continue as long as they can.
"As long as we can find something that interests us, we'll be there. This has been a joy and we have met a lot of nice people through taking these classes."
