When MSU Human Resources generalist Leslie McKee Corey took part in a leadership forum with the City of Starkville, through a group project she discovered a hidden passion for helping others and making a difference in the lives of those in need through the United Way.

As community chairman for the non-profit organization, she now is helping others discover the fulfillment in reaching outside themselves through personal involvement and fundraising.

"The United Way touches so many lives," Corey said. "Everyone has a family member or friend who has been helped by the United Way in some fashion. This is a great opportunity for them to give a little bit back and help others who are in need."

Corey has been involved in the United Way for three years and previously served as university chairman. In her role as community chairman, she is responsible for coordinating community awareness and fundraising efforts throughout the Starkville area.

The United Way is an umbrella organization coordinating fund-raising efforts for 21 charities and non-profit organizations in Oktibbeha County and approximately 1,300 local organizations nationwide.
