Junior human sciences/fashion design and merchandising major Fleshia D. Gillon of Amory and MSU School of Human Sciences Professor and Director Michael Newman examine a violet silk umbrella from the MSU Historic Costume and Textiles Collection. Part of the university's "Silk Unraveled: A Revealing Look at the History and Use of Silk Fabric" exhibit on display through March 29 at the Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery, the umbrella dates to the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is among featured objects designed to give visitors a better appreciation of silk’s importance from Old World origins to the modern age.
