Exploring the Past

The Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, located in Mississippi State University's Mitchell Memorial Library, has opened the public exhibit "The Presidents' Faces: Portraits of Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln in Context." Focusing on three presidents -- Lincoln, Grant and James Garfield -- the exhibit features art and photographs from the Henry Ulke family collection. The exhibit opening also coincides with the Grant Library's 15th Amendment Symposium, a three-day event starting Wednesday [Sept. 23] that will explore the history of African American voting rights from the 1870 ratification of the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
