STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s Adkerson School of Accountancy is once again being recognized for its nationally competitive accounting programs.

The 2018 Commerce Clearing House Public Accounting Report lists MSU in the top 10 for master’s and undergraduate accounting programs for schools with 16 or fewer full-time accounting faculty. The programs also are ranked among the best in the southern United States, regardless of faculty size. The rankings are based on survey results from accounting faculty across the country.

“Our outstanding faculty in the Adkerson School of Accountancy continue to provide high-level programs that prepare our graduates for successful careers,” MSU College of Business Dean Sharon Oswald said. “I am grateful that accounting faculty from across the country recognize the strength of our programs.”

MSU is ranked No. 6 for its undergraduate accounting program and No. 7 for it’s master’s program among universities with 16 or fewer full-time accounting faculty. The university’s undergraduate program ranks No. 14 in the south, while its master’s program is ranked No. 20.

“These Public Accounting Report rankings are another indication of the quality of the Adkerson School of Accountancy’s programs,” said Shawn Mauldin, the school’s director. “Students can be confident that their accounting degree from Mississippi State University will allow them to compete with graduates from any other program in the United States.”

Housed in MSU’s College of Business, the School of Accountancy is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the world’s largest business education network and longest-serving accrediting body for business schools with undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. MSU is among 799 business schools around the world that hold AACSB accreditation. Additionally, MSU is among only 186 institutions that hold an additional, specialized AACSB accreditation for their accounting programs.

Earlier this year, the School of Accountancy updated its curricula to emphasize technology skills relevant to data analytics and to give students the tools needed to remain at the forefront of the accounting profession.

Approximately 100 bachelor’s degree candidates and 35-40 master’s degree candidates graduate from MSU’s accounting programs every year. MSU offers a bachelor’s in accountancy and an accounting minor for undergraduate students. For graduate students, the School of Accountancy offers professional accountancy and taxation master’s programs.

The school is named for Richard C. Adkerson, an MSU College of Business graduate and CEO of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.  For more on the Adkerson School of Accountancy, visit www.business.msstate.edu/programs/adkerson/.
