MSU has strong showing at college media competition

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University brought home 11 awards recently from the 2016 Associated Press Louisiana-Mississippi College Contest.

The Associated Press College Contest recognizes outstanding achievement in student media. MSU students won awards in print journalism, broadcast journalism, weathercasting and photography for their working during the 2016 calendar year.

The awards won by current and former MSU students include, in alphabetical order:

Best Continuing Coverage: Second Place, Pranaav Jadhav of India, MSTV; Jadhav also took the third place award.

Best Layout and Design: Third Place, Emmalyne Kwasny of Brandon and Jenn McFadden of Harvest, Alabama, The Reflector.

Best Sports Breaking News: Third Place, Taylor Rayburn of Oxford, The Reflector.

Best Sportscast: Second Place, Parker King of Madison, MSTV.

Best Sports Photos: Second Place, Olivia Zeringue of Southaven, The Reflector.

Best Video: First Place, Pranaav Jadhav and Parker King, MSTV; Third place: Parker King and Sara Martin of Canton, Georgia, MSTV.

Best Weathercast: First Place, James Bryant of North Little Rock, Arkansas, MSTV; Second, Brooke Laizer of Metairie, Louisiana, MSTV; Third Place, Denise Lee of West Point, MSTV.
