STARKVILLE, Miss.— The Mississippi State University Alumni Association announces Andrew Weddle of Saltillo as the recipient of the fourth annual tuition drawing. For the upcoming spring 2017 semester at Mississippi State, Weddle will be awarded 12 credit hours of ‘free’ tuition.
A freshman business administration major, Weddle was surprised with the presentation of an oversized check during his honors English class. He said he is grateful to the MSU Alumni Association and its student organization for the generous gift awarded through the drawing.
“As a son and grandson of Mississippi State alumni, I consider it a great privilege to attend this university,” said Weddle. “It means so much to my family and me, and I cannot express how truly thankful we are.”
The tuition drawing program began in 2013 and has been coordinated by the university’s Alumni Delegates, a select group of about 40 diverse students that works to improve understanding of the alumni association’s role through service to their campus and the university’s more than 137,000 living alumni.
Each semester, the sale of tickets is open to parents of in-state underclassmen enrolled full-time at MSU in order to generate financial support. Weddle’s name was drawn in November from 488 student entrants.
“The tuition drawing is a way for the Alumni Delegates to positively influence the student experience. This year, almost 3,100 tickets were sold for the drawing, generating more than $12,800. The amount beyond the ‘free’ tuition awarded to Andrew will go toward a scholarship endowment, with the goal of eventually helping even more students with tuition expenses,” said Jeff Davis, executive director of the MSU Alumni Association.
