DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Vicki Adams-Gamble
With more than 20 years of experience working in the early childhood field, Vicki Adams-Gamble has a lot of person expertise to share in her work as a field technical assistant for the MSU Extension Service. Adams-Gamble works with The Early Years Network at its mid-Jackson location. She mentors and trains childcare providers and directors at childcare centers in Hinds and Rankin counties.

After he retired from a career with AT&T, Randy Grayson wanted to stay busy. So he embarked on a new career with the Mississippi State University Extension Service. Grayson is an office associate in the Jones County office. “Every day is different,” he said.

HRM to host search committee workshop
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State will host a "Successful Search Committees Guaranteed" workshop with noted HR practitioner Chris Lee of SearchCommittees.com on Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium. MSU academic and non-academic administrators, faculty and staff who have served or plan to serve on a search committee are invited to attend this free session.

A Mississippi State service department now is associated formally with the prestigious Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. The Washington, D.C.-based council recently admitted to its membership the National College Testing Association, of which the university's Assessment and Testing Services is a charter member.

Writing excellence workshop taking applications
The Maroon & Write QEP Office at Mississippi State will offer the Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence this June. The program is designed to introduce writing-to-learn strategies for use in the classroom. During this three-week interactive workshop, participants will receive guidance in revising syllabi and creating relevant writing assignments.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Outstanding Women Awards Program, sponsored by the President's Commission on the Status of Women at Mississippi State. These awards recognize women who are advocates for the well-being, development and advancement of all women on the university's campuses and the surrounding communities. MSU faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate campus and community women for the awards.

Snyder selected for U. of Oxford research fellowship
The dean of Mississippi State University's Shackouls Honors College is traveling to England to examine possible connections between MSU's first Rhodes Scholar and the title character of "The Great Gatsby." During May and June, Christopher A. Snyder will participate in "Globalising and Localising the Great War Programme" at the University of Oxford.
Du named Fellow of international optics society
An international organization has awarded a Bagley College professor its most prestigious membership rank. Qian “Jenny” Du, a Bobby Shackouls Endowed Professor of electrical engineering, has been named a Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics. Du’s commitment to research, the optics community and SPIE throughout her 15-year career in academia prompted her nomination and Fellow selection.
Wan among those working on new flu vaccine
In the midst of one of the worst overall influenza seasons, a Mississippi State researcher is part of an international effort to develop next season's vaccines. Dr. Henry Wan, an associate professor at the university's College of Veterinary Medicine, has been awarded a National Institutes of Health RO1 grant to develop better ways of determining new flu vaccines.
Huerkamp gains prestigious culinary certification
The executive chef of Mississippi State University Dining now holds Pro Chef II certification from the Culinary Institute of America. Greg D. Huerkamp was awarded the advanced ranking following successful completion of a recent four-day training experience in San Antonio, Texas.
