JUVA Juice location opens at Sanderson Center
The Joe Frank Sanderson Center at Mississippi State University now is home to a full-service smoothie bar. Open to all, JUVA Juice's fall semester hours of operation are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and 2-7 p.m. Sunday. Hours are subject to change, however. Laura Walling, MSU's recreational sports director, said the addition of JUVA Juice should help the Sanderson Center fulfill a growing client request.

Stennis Institute to honor Hardwick Wednesday
A public tribute to the retiring program coordinator at Mississippi State’s John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development will take place Wednesday at a Starkville restaurant. Phil Hardwick of Jackson is stepping down from the university institute after more than a decade.

Exhibit features Maroon Edition-inspired works
Works of six artists inspired by Mississippi State's 2014 Maroon Edition book selection will be on display through Sept. 19. Titled "Identity," the free, public exhibition in the Colvard Student Union Art Gallery is organized by MSU's Center for Student Activities, Maroon Edition freshman common reading program, and College of Architecture, Art and Design's art department.

Maroon Alert is a family of communication outlets to communicate about emergency situations. In most situations the primary means of communication are web, e-mail, Twitter via @maroonalert and sometimes instant messaging.

Register today for CERT half-marathon, 5K
The Community Emergency Response Team at Mississippi State is hosting The Preparathon -- a half-marathon, 5K, half-mile family fun run and Emergency Preparedness Fair -- in mid-October. Proceeds from the races will benefit the Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Departments, OSERVS and the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services.

Soccer plays Furman in Greenville, S.C., at 6 p.m. on Thursday, and then hosts Southern Miss on Sunday at 6 p.m.... Volleyball plays Bakersfield at 1:30 p.m. and Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the Sam Houston Invitational at Huntsville, Texas, and then plays Texas-Pan American at 11:30 a.m. and Louisiana-Monroe at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday... Cross Country competes Saturday at the Memphis Twilight Classic... Football hosts Southern Miss on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. to open the season in Davis Wade Stadium.

Kopetz succeeds Brown as music department head
An experienced Ohio conductor and educator is the new head of Mississippi State's music department. Barry E. Kopetz began his administrative duties at the university Aug. 1. He succeeds longtime department head Michael Brown, who now is teaching the department's music appreciation classes fulltime.
SEC visiting faculty travel grant applications sought
The Southeastern Conference Visiting Faculty Travel Grant Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. Mississippi State University can select a maximum of four faculty members to receive 2015 travel grants of $2,500 each for transportation, room, board, etc., to use for travel to another SEC campus. Completed applications must be submitted by Sept. 12.
Research resources overview set for Thursday
Join the Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State for "Campus Resources Necessary for Research Success," the opening session of this year's Research Seminar Series, on Thursday from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Bost Extension Center theater. Assistant Vice President for Research Teresa Gammill will moderate a panel discussion overview of the many resources available on campus to facilitate research.
Parking areas closed for Evans Hall demolition
Parking areas south and north of Evans Hall at Mississippi State University are now closed by a construction fence in preparation for an upcoming demolition project. This closure will remain in place during construction of a new residence hall, which is expected to be in use in August 2016.
