Center hires experts to address wild hogs
Mississippi State University’s Center for Resolving Human-Wildlife Conflicts recently announced the addition of two new staff members to address the growing challenge of controlling the state’s wild hog population. Mississippi State alumni Cliff Covington and Steven Tucker will coordinate and conduct educational workshops, field days and seminars.

Musselwhite achieves certified safety designation
Alicia Musselwhite of Mississippi State University's Office of Environmental Health and Safety has achieved the credential of Certified Safety Professional. The general CSP requirements include education, professional safety experience, demonstrating knowledge of professional safety practice, and passing the Board of Certified Safety Professionals exam.

Gilbert visits students taking MSU course at JA
Last week, Mississippi State's provost and executive vice president visited a class of 20 high school seniors at Jackson Academy who are digging into a new engineering course in which they will earn college credit. Jerry Gilbert said MSU and Jackson State are partnering to teach the college freshman level course.

Williams joins broadcast; Gregory moves to SECN
Richard Williams is no stranger to Mississippi State, and now his voice will become just as familiar as his successful coaching tactics. Williams, who guided the Bulldogs to the 1996 Final Four, will join the legendary Jim Ellis in the basketball radio booth starting this season. He replaces Bart Gregory, who is making the transition to the SEC Network.

Research resource overview opens seminar series
Join the Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State for "Campus Resources Necessary for Research Success," the opening session of this year's Research Seminar Series, on Aug. 28 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Bost Extension Center theater. Assistant Vice President for Research Teresa Gammill will moderate a panel discussion overview of the many resources available on campus to facilitate research.

Safe travel encouraged for first week of classes
As Mississippi State begins the fall semester, officials are encouraging students, employees and community members to be mindful of the high traffic volume, road closures and directional changes. "With the many construction projects currently underway, we're encouraging students and all others to take some time to familiarize themselves with the current layout of the campus," said Dan Whatley, MSU director of facility management.
Parking areas closed for Evans Hall demolition
On Monday, parking areas south and north of Evans Hall at Mississippi State University will be closed by a construction fence in preparation for an upcoming demolition project. This closure will remain in place during construction of a new residence hall, which is expected to be in use in August 2016.
Cake Box Eatery opens in Cochran Research Park
The MSU Research and Technology Corporation announces that the Cake Box Eatery is now open in the II-VI building located at 60 Technology Blvd., Suite 100 in the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park. Open to all, the restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch, as well as an assortment of bakery items, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Construction begins on new Maroon Edition home
Mississippi State and Starkville area Habitat for Humanity volunteers and officials broke ground last week for the sixth annual Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity project. A service-learning component of the university's Maroon Edition First-Year Reading Experience, the house will benefit a local working mother and her four children. MSU President Mark E. Keenum continued a tradition by driving the first construction nail.
