Nominations wanted for distinguished staff awards
MSU Staff Council needs your help in nominating outstanding Mississippi State University employees for the Zacharias Distinguished Staff awards. Twelve winners will be presented with a plaque of recognition and a check for $1,000. Awards will be announced at the annual Staff Appreciation Day on May 17 in the Junction. The nomination deadline is April 11.

University hosting PERS seminar next month
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State University is hosting a PERS pre-retirement, full-day seminar on April 10 at Bost Extension Center. This seminar offers general information on a range of topics including estate planning, Mississippi Deferred Compensation Plan and Trust, Social Security benefits, and PERS benefits and options. Early registration is encouraged.

The Maroon Alert system is how we communicate with the campus community about emergency situations that may arise on campus. Maroon Alert is a family of communication outlets to communicate about emergency situations. In most situations the primary means of communication are web, e-mail and sometimes instant messaging.

MSU women’s hoops invites fans to banquet
Fans can join the Mississippi State women’s basketball team at its awards banquet on Wednesday. Fans will enjoy a great meal, highlight video, remarks from head coach Vic Schaefer and players, and the awards presentations. The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Hunter Henry Center.

Women's Golf opens play in the Briar's Creek Invitational at John's Island, S.C., on Monday... Softball plays UAB in Birmingham on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then hosts Auburn for a weekend series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.... Baseball hosts Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and then opens a weekend series against Arkansas in Fayetteville on Friday at 6:35 p.m. (Cox Sports TV)... Track and Field competes in the Texas Relays at Austin beginning Wednesday... Women's Tennis travels to Oxford for a match against Ole Miss on Friday at 1 p.m.... Men's Tennis hosts Ole Miss at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Collins sees major sports medicine recognition
Dr. Robert K. "Bob" Collins of Mississippi State is this year's selection for the Jack C. Hughston, M.D., Sports Medicine Person of the Year award. Presented by the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association at its recent annual conference, the honor recognizes the family practitioner's 35-year university career.
Nemeth takes over new responsibilities
Mississippi State University Director of Athletics Scott Stricklin announced March 21 the promotion of Mike Nemeth to senior associate AD for administration, with specific responsibilities in the areas of department-wide contracts, summer camp management, bowl game and other post-season competition organization, and scheduling athletic events.
American Fisheries Society chapter honors Jackson
The Mississippi chapter of the American Fisheries Society recently honored a Mississippi State University professor with a conservation award. Donald Jackson, a professor in MSU’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture, received the C.A. Schultz Conservation award at the chapter’s annual meeting last month in McComb.
Mullen tabs Sallach to coach tight ends
Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen announced March 18 his final on-field assistant for the 2013 season. Scott Sallach, who has coached tight ends since 2009, will return to the on-field post this spring. Sallach had been named coordinator of football scouting in February.
