MSU-based library consortium grows, changes name
Mississippi's largest library consortium added new libraries and changed its name last week week. With the merger, the system now serves 53 libraries in 14 Mississippi counties. "We have simply outgrown the previous name for the consortium," said Stephen Cunetto, administrator of systems with Mississippi State University Libraries. "The name Mississippi Library Partnership better represents the fact that this network covers more than just Mississippi's Golden Triangle."

University projects on track, Gilbert says
In his latest update for the Mississippi State University community, Provost and Executive Vice President Jerry Gilbert offers an update on new residence hall construction, classroom building planning, the university's strategic plan, and more.

Ragtime Jazz Festival to 'razzle-dazzle' campus
Dynamic musical showmanship and toe-tapping entertainment again are on the schedule for the sixth annual Charles Templeton Ragtime Jazz Festival at Mississippi State. Taking place on the university campus March 30-31, the major spring event includes evening concerts in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium, along with daytime sessions and tours at the Templeton Music Museum in Mitchell Memorial Library.

Institutional diversity, inclusion in focus March 21
Mississippi State University's Office of Diversity and Equity Programs, along with the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, Bagley College of Engineering Diversity Programs and Student Development, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and the President's Commission on the Status of Minorities, will sponsor a session focusing on institutional diversity and inclusion March 21.

Summit to focus on furniture production March 21
A March 21 summit at Mississippi State will feature the latest news in furniture manufacturing and government regulations. Topics will include recent changes in China and their effect on domestic furniture production, opportunities for a resurgence of manufacturing in America, and regulations impacting furniture production.

Recycling change: No more glass in bins, please
Mississippi State's single-stream recycling program has now been in place for more than a year. The program has fundamentally changed the way the university collects recyclables and trash on campus. However, due to a contractor change, MSU can no longer collect glass as part of the recycling stream.

Baseball is on the road to Southeastern Louisiana for 6 p.m. games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then opens SEC play against LSU in Baton Rouge on Friday at 7 p.m.... Millea, Hobart honored by legislators
Holland Faculty Senate President Meghan Millea and Rhett Hobart, president of the Student Association, are Mississippi State's 2012 honorees in the annual state higher education appreciation program.

Huston named MVMA veterinarian of the year
A veterinarian at Mississippi State University has been named the state's top veterinarian, an honor that has now come to MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine three times. Carla Huston, associate professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine, was named the Mississippi Veterinarian of the Year by the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

Holland named president-elect of regional HR org
A Mississippi State staff member is the new president-elect of the Golden Triangle Human Resources Association. Susan Holland, recruitment, retention, and program specialist in the university's Office of Diversity and Equity Programs, recently was elected to lead the non-profit organization representing area professionals in the human resources field.

President's Commission serving women
Since its creation in the late 1970s by then Mississippi State President James D. McComas, the President's Commission on the Status of Women has recognized the accomplishments of women on campus and in the community. Now, while continuing its traditional activities, the organization also is taking steps to engage more women by expanding its reach and adding new programs. Susan Holland, current PCSW chair, said the commission is trying to connect with more constituents on campus and discuss issues of importance to them.
