ITS notice about April 1 'worm'
March 31, 2009
Much media attention has been focused recently on the Conficker worm and the potential for it to be remotely commanded by its creators to cause significant disruptions to computer networks beginning on April 1. The worm, which targets Microsoft Windows systems, is estimated to have infected between 3 and 12 million computers worldwide. MSU students, faculty, and staff who practice safe computing as prescribed by university policy, have their computers configured for automatic software updates, and have current anti-virus protection can be assured that they've taken the necessary steps to avoid problems. As always, Information Technology Services will be closely monitoring events and will take action to limit the spread of problems, should the need arise.
