Horticultural Entomology
Extension and Research Program

Extension efforts:
Provide agents, professional plant producers, landscape and golf course managers, and homeowners with the information necessary to diagnose and manage pests that attack horticultural commodities.

Research interests:
Biology of insect and mite pests that attack trees, shrubs, and turfgrass in production or in landscapes in the southern United States.  The behavior and ecology of these pests are not always well understood, yet essential to developing effective management strategies.

Interactions between plant-feeding insects and their host plants.
Investigate novel, reduced-risk insecticides for management of pests on golf courses, in landscapes, or in nursery production.
Non-target impact of pesticides in southern turfgrass.

Useful reference for pest management in turf and the landscape:

Bulletin 504 from the Ohio State University lists pesticides by pest
